Hope & Steve – Cinematic Feature

As so often happens with wedding cinematography, we were a last minute option for Hope and Steve. I am so glad they decided we were worth the investment!

There are so many fantastic memories about this day but the one that really stands out for me is the father-daughter dance. There is a beautiful close-up of him whispering in her ear: “Don’t be sad, you will always be my little girl”. Beautiful. The whole day was full of laughter and beautiful little moments like that.

Hope and Steve, you guys are off to a great start. You are perfect for each other and we wish you a long life filled with love!

Here are some still captures from the amazing footage…

Regan & Lisa – Teaser

There was so much amazing footage to choose from for this Fall wedding that I really struggled to limit myself to a minute or two for this teaser edit. Regan and Lisa were amazing and they really looked like they were having almost as much fun as we were shooting this! Fall is definitely my favourite time of year for weddings in Winnipeg.

Here are a few stills from the video for you to check out too…

Analee & Ian – Cinematic Wedding Highlights

I met Analee and Ian in the depths of winter. We shot a beautiful Save the Date video early in the year and I was excited to see what they had in store for the big day.

Spectacular. Just spectacular!

The highlight for me while editing this shoot was definitely the lanterns. I spent 5 years in Taiwan and every year there was a lantern festival where the sky what lit up by thousands of these beautiful paper lanterns. Each one carrying the hopes and prayers of the family that sent it up to the heavens. For a couple like Analee and Ian who have known each other for most of their lives my wish is that they learn to fall more in love with each other with every passing year.

Here are a couple of stills I grabbed from the video…

Marie Cecile & Matthew – A Multicultural Celebration

It’s not often you see a wedding with so many diverse cultural elements woven into the day. Marie Cecile and Matthew actually had 3 costume changes and 2 dance performances at the reception, not to mention the traditional Filipino performers that entertained the crown throughout the evening. Never a dull moment!

The couple had some bad luck in the run up to the big day, culminating in Marie Cecile’s parents not being given their travel documents in time to be there for the wedding. I will be putting more of the longer version online later for those who couldn’t be there. They got through the hurdles of the day so now they are sure to have a lifetime of smooth sailing from here on in!

Thanks as always to Manny Sousa for being so easy to work with on the day. Also a shout out to The Hilton for the great meal.

Sarah & BJ – Wedding Video Teaser

Lise directed this shoot with our alternate crew…and what a stunning job she did! Loads of eye-candy to choose from when putting together this little teaser! I can`t wait to get to the main feature edit.

Jill & Mike – A Clear Lake Wedding Music Video

Janelle and I drove out to Clear lake to shoot Jill and Mike’s wedding movie. We always knew it was going to be a good one, but there is no way we could have known how much fun it would be to shoot the music video part of the day!

From the lake front to the beautiful open fields to the forested areas… there were just so many amazing little places to shoot. A couple of months before the wedding Jill sent out a little instructional video on the dance moves she wanted the wedding party to practice for the grand entrance. I suggested we shoot the rehearsals too so we could cut them into the entrance and then we decided the best thing would be to just make a little music video of the whole thing. So here it is….

Kulvir & Bal – Winnipeg + Vancouver Wedding Video

To say this family is photogenic is the understatement of the century. Joel Ross and I just had the most wonderful time shooting Kulvir and Bal’s wedding in Winnipeg and Vancouver.

This is the craziest time of the year for any wedding cinematography professional. Mid-Summer has just passed and now the real work starts… putting together all those amazing clips into a movie that captures the emotions of the celebration and works as a piece of art. No small task, but when you have the honour of shooting a couple who are so easygoing and whose families make you feel welcome and are happy to try out all your crazy ideas for shots… this is the kind on Same day Edit you end up with…

Kim and Phil – Video Highlights – Winnipeg Wedding Videographer

Here are a couple of pics from behind the scenes of the photo-shoot for Kim and Phil’s wedding. If the wind isn’t blowing in the right direction… you just have to improvise!

I met with Kim and Phil for the first time so long ago that it feels like we have been friends forever! Having shot their social, e-shoot and wedding I feel really invested in them as a couple. When you hear them speak about each other when they are in separate rooms, you can just see the love and respect they have for each other. When they are together you can feel it. I am super happy that we could be even a small part of their celebration…

Fore! #fb

Melissa and Jamie are getting married on August 6th. They wanted to do something a little unique for their invitations. We needed a concept for a save the date video that would really show their fun-loving personalities. Jamie suggested a game of golf. Great idea.

We headed out on the front 9 at River Oaks yesterday with a couple of carts, a couple of beers, a couple of cameras and a couple of ideas. Do I love my job? Yes, sir! Best thing about this time of year.. NO MOSQUITOES!!! Driving a golf cart with one hand while shooting video holding a (very expensive) camera in the other hand is… well let’s say it’s slightly less challenging (and potentially life-threatening) than driving my SUV in the traffic with one hand and shooting video with the other! Anything to get the shot. Anything.

This was a fantastic way to spend a sunny afternoon…

Reena & Maneesh

So the silly season has finally started for us. We have 51 engagements in the next 18 weeks. We are 100% geared up and ready to rock!

It’s always great to kick off with an East Indian wedding. The colours and the traditions make for the most beautiful cinematography. Reena and Maneesh had a breathtaking ceremony and reception at the Convention Centre this weekend. Events by Emma were the coordinators for this wedding so as you would expect, everything ran perfectly all week. Manny Sousa took care of the photography which turned out just beautifully. Elite Lighting did the sound and lighting and Sohan did a fantastic job as always. It is truly a pleasure to work with these elite vendors on any wedding.

I put together a quick edit overnight between the ceremony day and the reception. I am just busy getting all the footage from the reception loaded on the hard drives and ready for editing so I thought I would share the little NDE (Next Day Edit)…

Sheila and Mitch – Highlights (#fb)

It’s been months of 16 hour days to get caught up with all the editing from this Summer. Although I am beat, I have loved every minute of the process.

I don’t have much to say about Sheila and Mitches highlights video except to say that their fun loving personalities really come out in the video. It was so much fun filming the Bridezilla trailer (see below) and the wedding was even more fun!!!! There was a funny incident for me actually: I like to drink Coke at the reception for the caffeine and sugar. So, I put my half full glass down for a moment to adjust a camera setting, then reached down a few moments later and gulped the whole thing in one go. Yikes!!!! It turned out to be somebody elses (very strong) rye and coke. Bit of a shock to the system when you’re not expecting it!!!

Fun times.

Enjoy the video…

Same Day Edit – Vanessa & Tyler

Nearly everybody plays a slide-show of their old photos which is always good for a laugh, but if you really want to be memorable, a Same Day Edit is the only way to go. For Vanessa and Tyler’s wedding this last week, we had about 200KM of driving to get through on the day, which was the perfect opportunity to get the edit done. I took some moments form the Hair Salon and Tyler’s getting ready as well as the big moments from the ceremony. This, together with an emotional soundtrack and a few beautiful shots from the photo-shoot and you have a same day edit that brings a tear to the eye!

I wish it was actually as simple as that! There is a huge amount of planning and scrambling to get the shots edited in the ridiculously short time available on the day. To edit a 4 minute photo-shoot will usually take me the better part of a 10 hour work day, so putting together a 2 to 3 minute SDE (Same Day Edit) in under 60 minutes is a little challenging, to say the least! It is best to play the video as an intro before the Bride and Groom’s speech. To get it finished by then means I have to use every spare second throughout the day to get the pieces to fit together. I have to say I thrive on the pressure!

Like our full DVDs, every SDE is different. It really depends on the little moments that stand out for us on the day. The music is a big part of the character too. Could be fun, or romantic or deeply emotional. We take our cue from each couple. With Vanessa and Tyler it was just so obvious how deeply they love each other. That kind of bond deserves a deeply emotional score. So here it is:
