It’s Love launch Party

Weddings in Winnipeg has changed it’s name to It’s Love. New look, fresh ideas and a great place to find all the best vendors in Winnipeg. Check out the video of the launch party…

Leilani & Joel

This wedding was full of character and characters… always a pleasure to be a part of! You may remember this couple and their entourage from a little music video we put together for them just after the wedding.

Favourite speech of the year so far goes to Leilani’s brother talking about his private investigation into whether or not she and Joel were dating. Super funny!

A huge thanks to Events by Emma for the amazing touches she and her team put together for the reception at the convention centre. And a shoutout to Lise and Kris who shot the footage on this one.

Cinematic Wedding Highlights – Arlene & Ryan

I kinda fall in love with each couple I work with. We get so invested in their relationship as we get to know them better during the planning of the wedding shoot. On the day, I just love how the nerves in the early morning get replaced with excitement just before the ceremony and a general party mood right after. It’s one of the great things about this type of work. I get to hang out with people when they are happy!

We did both photo and video coverage of Arlene and Ryan’s wedding. I love being able to use both video and stills to document the day. The stills give you a few, select, frozen moments in time. They have an appeal in that you are left to imagine the sounds and movement surrounding the moment. As a couple, you really want those one or two iconic images that you can frame or put on canvas to hang in your home. My favourite from this wedding is the moment just as the groom flings the garter and the boys are poised and ready to “pants” him. Their expressions are priceless. What I particularly love is that we were able to capture that moment as a photo and then blend it in with the video of that crazy Filipino tradition. (Watch out for it near the end of the movie).

Yes, photos are great, but the real emotion is in the video. Ryan’s mom’s speech about how much she is going to miss him had me all choked up thinking about how much I will miss Jonah when he is all grown up and leaves home. Those moments are why you absolutely MUST get video for your wedding. It’s the only way to preserve the speeches and the vows and the thousand other moments that deserve to live on after the day is done.

Enjoy the video and here are a couple more stills for you too…

Artistic Family Portrait Idea

A lot of my time is spent waiting for my computer to crunch the bits and bytes that make up the cinematic edits we do. I try to use that time productively by searching for inspiration or new ideas to bring to my brand of videography and photography. Today I spent the time going over some of my archived work from a few years ago and I found this amazing little music video.

I wrote the music and recorded all the instruments while I was still living in Taiwan. This is one of only two tracks where you can actually hear me singing! (I guess you’ll have to just ignore the vocals then, eh?). I made the video by putting together over 1000 individual photos I took when we went for a walk in the park one spring. I wasn’t strictly trying to capture a family portrait, but it got me thinking. Wouldn’t this be a cool way to do a family portrait video or a save the date shoot? Not only do you get a beautiful work of cinematic art but you also get the best images to make prints or a little guest signing book.

I am totally psyched to do a couple of shoots like this in the Spring. Who’s interested? Message me right now to book your session!

We are on TV!

A Moving Picture Studios is the official videographer for the Wonderful Wedding Show. Part of that responsibility includes making the TV ads for the show. If you watch Global, CTV or a couple of the other cable channels for the next few weeks you will see our ad on TV! Very exciting for us! The voice over artist is none other than Janelle, my lovely wife too!

The show is in 2 weeks and our booth is right next to the groom’s lounge. If you’re engaged or even if you’re just bored, why not stop by for a chat?!

What’s happening in the studio right now…

Just busy editing Arlene and Ryan’s photos and though I would share a couple of my favourite images from this afternoon’s session. After the stills are all edited I will be scouring the video for some great still captures that can help bring the final photo album to life. I do love photography, but what I am most looking forward to is putting together the cinematic feature film for this wedding! Cinematography is, after all, my first love!

(Well, actually Janelle is my first Love, capital “L” and cinematography is my first love, little “l”, but you know what I mean, right?)

Here are some images for you to share and enjoy…

In the Doghouse!

Petsecure, the pet insurance guys, put on a show yesterday at The Forks. A whole bunch of media personalities were there to decorate some gingerbread doghouses. Here is a fun little video we made for them. Very festive!

Thank You!

It’s been a few weeks of solid editing here in the studio. Couple more months still to go before I can wrap up all the amazing edits for 2012. I had a few moments today to look back over the great weddings we had the pleasure of being a part of this year. This is just a quick note to say thank you. Thank you to all you wonderful couples who invited us into your lives for that brief moment. It has been, and continues to be, an honour to be there to capture those memories.

This little video sums up how I feel about what we get to to for a living…

Hope & Steve – Cinematic Feature

As so often happens with wedding cinematography, we were a last minute option for Hope and Steve. I am so glad they decided we were worth the investment!

There are so many fantastic memories about this day but the one that really stands out for me is the father-daughter dance. There is a beautiful close-up of him whispering in her ear: “Don’t be sad, you will always be my little girl”. Beautiful. The whole day was full of laughter and beautiful little moments like that.

Hope and Steve, you guys are off to a great start. You are perfect for each other and we wish you a long life filled with love!

Here are some still captures from the amazing footage…

Raquelle and Chris

Best speeches of the year so far!

To be completely honest, I am a bit jaded by wedding speeches after hearing hundreds of them every year. It’s just one of those things you get used to when you shoot wedding movies for a living. Every so often there is a group of people that nail it… Chris and Raquelle’s speeches did just that. Perhaps it also helps when you have a hand full of best men instead of one?! I found myself smiling and laughing along with everybody as I was editing this wedding. Fun times.

Great wedding. Great couple.

Regan & Lisa – Teaser

There was so much amazing footage to choose from for this Fall wedding that I really struggled to limit myself to a minute or two for this teaser edit. Regan and Lisa were amazing and they really looked like they were having almost as much fun as we were shooting this! Fall is definitely my favourite time of year for weddings in Winnipeg.

Here are a few stills from the video for you to check out too…

Analee & Ian – Cinematic Wedding Highlights

I met Analee and Ian in the depths of winter. We shot a beautiful Save the Date video early in the year and I was excited to see what they had in store for the big day.

Spectacular. Just spectacular!

The highlight for me while editing this shoot was definitely the lanterns. I spent 5 years in Taiwan and every year there was a lantern festival where the sky what lit up by thousands of these beautiful paper lanterns. Each one carrying the hopes and prayers of the family that sent it up to the heavens. For a couple like Analee and Ian who have known each other for most of their lives my wish is that they learn to fall more in love with each other with every passing year.

Here are a couple of stills I grabbed from the video…
